Back in July, I posted an image of a cute, photogenic little toad I found in my yard. Well, a few days after I took the picture, I was taking my lunch at work, I decided to "Google" photography contests because I thought he was contest worthy. Well, my search was successful and I located a Photography Competition called the 2010 North Carolina Wildlife Photography Competition held by NC Wildlife Magazine and submitted the photo. You can see the photo here: First Place Winner - Amphibian/Reptiles
I must say, because I submitted the photo in July, by the time October came around I completely forgot about my submission. Well...good news, I was notified at the end of October that my photo was a finalist in the competition in the Reptile/Amphibian category. I was completely shocked and extremely exited. Approximately a week later, I was informed that my toad portrait was the first place winner in the Reptile/Amphibian category. I was elated at this news! It was a great accomplishment. This was the first photography competition I entered and I won first place!
So, with the win comes a gift card, a check, copies of the magazine the toad will be published in, a display of the toad at the Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh, NC and a large print of the photograph. Along with the exposure from the publishing came a phone call from my local newspaper. The local newspaper ran a little article about my win in the competition.
That was an incredible achievement and I am a very proud photographer!
